Donna Peru

Donna Rae Dahlinger Peru, 85, of Cranberry Township, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, while under the care of The Waters of Wexford.

She was born on April 27, 1937, in Pittsburgh. Donna married Charles “Blaine” Peru, a dental officer and U.S. Navy veteran, on Oct. 17, 1964, and they celebrated almost 46 years of marriage until his passing on July 12, 2010. Navy life lent itself to domestic and international living, travel, experiences, and making unique and lifelong friendships along the way. Donna served as president of the Navy Dental Wives Club during their tour in Virginia Beach, Va., and remained active wherever the Navy took them, but focused mostly on raising their three daughters, which was her greatest joy.

Prior to marrying, Donna worked for Eastern Airlines as a stewardess, and worked as a coordinator in the fashion department at Joseph Horne’s Company in Pittsburgh. She loved her job and co-workers at Horne’s and spoke fondly of her memories there throughout the years that followed. Always “dressed to the nines,” Donna had a flair for fashion, even in her final days.

Donna belonged to the 55+ Club in Cranberry Township. She enjoyed being a member of this group and especially, the inner circle of 75+ ladies, who met frequently for lunch, movies and activities on their own. She truly cherished her numerous friendships, some of which spanned as many as eight decades, as well as many dear and supportive neighbors throughout her life.

Donna was charming, imaginative, and a gifted story teller. Her ability to recall details and give descriptive narratives with animation was remarkable. She could captivate an audience with her talkative hands and her expressive eyes. Her beautiful smile was contagious.

Donna is survived by three daughters, Paige (Keith) Gunter of Morrisville, N.C., Karen (Fulton) Campbell of Columbia, S.C., and Brooke (Scott) Whiteman of West Columbia, S.C.; her seven grandchildren, Logan and Michael Gunter, Matthew, Ryan and Ethan Campbell, and Alex and Anna Whiteman; as well as her stepsister, Judy Speciale of Sarasota, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Blaine Peru; and her parents, Richard (Marcella) Dahlinger and Esther (Louis) Veresh.
