CRANBERRY TWP — With prom later this week and graduation season approaching, North Catholic High School students had the chance to watch the potential horrors of driving while under the influence.

Cranberry Township first responders staged a mock car crash at North Catholic on Tuesday morning, showing students a portrayal of a two-car collision in which one driver was suspected of DUI. Students saw the process of first responders extracting passengers, police conducting sobriety tests and the carnage of a drunken driving crash.

Student actors who portrayed the victims were wearing tuxedos and dresses, as the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company later urged students as prom approaches to “remember your actions have consequences for yourself and others.”

The volunteer fire company, Cranberry Township Police Department, Cranberry Township EMS, Quality EMS and Allegheny Health Network Paramedic Response Team 955 assisted in the portrayal.

Following the staged crash, students had the opportunity to speak with first responders.
