Seneca student leads community food drive

Lilia Maschmeier, an eighth-grade student at Ryan Gloyer Middle School, is spearheading a districtwide food drive to benefit the community through the Help Your Neighbor program at Victory Family Church in Cranberry Township.

Lilia’s goal is to gather 10,000 nonperishable food items for the program.

She met with principals at each of the schools in the Seneca Valley School District to get approval for the food drive.

She also asked businesses to sponsor the drive.

Homerooms that collect the most food will win various prizes, thanks to Lilia’s efforts.

Three winning classrooms per school in kindergarten through sixth grade will win passes to Fun Fore All Family Fun Park, UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex and coupons from Dairy Queen.

The class in grades seven through 12 that brings in the most food will win a pool party at the Cranberry Township Community Waterpark.

Nonperishable, unopened, unexpired items are being accepted until Wednesday.
