A crash involving a SUV and a dump truck occurred Tuesday on Beaver Street in Zelienople. Seb Fotlz/Butler Eagle

ZELIENOPLE — One person was injured when an SUV and a dump truck collided in front of St. Gregory Catholic Church on Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the SUV was injured, according to Zelienople first responders.

He was taken by Harmony EMS to the Zelienople Municipal Airport and flown by helicopter to a hospital, said Justin Hart, Harmony Fire District assistant chief.

The front of the car was badly damaged in the accident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m.

West Beaver Street was closed to traffic from McKim Street to Spruce Street.

“This could be a lengthy investigation,” Hart said late Tuesday afternoon. “I wouldn’t be surprised if (traffic) is closed in this area for three or four hours.” There is typically an investigation with a crash of this severity, he said.

Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, Zelienople police and Cranberry EMS also responded to the incident.
