Those age 65 and older who meet eligibility requirements can now apply online for rebates on property taxes and rent paid in 2021.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, which has reimbursed more than $7.1 billion to eligible Pennsylvanians since 1971, can visit mypath.pa.gov to electronically submit their applications.

Those who cannot apply online can get assistance at the county Area Agency on Aging office in Butler or at their local senior center.

Eligibility requirements include being 65 or older, a widow or widower age 50 or older, those with disabilities age 18 or older, and a maximum income of $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters. Half of Social Security income is excluded.

The maximum standard rebate is $650, but can be boosted to $975 in certain circumstances.

The program is funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery and slot machine revenue.
