County prosecutor recovering after crash
MIDDLESEX TWP — A Butler County prosecutor hopes to be back on the job soon after a two-vehicle accident last week left him hospitalized with a broken sternum and other injuries.
The wreck occurred while Ben Simon, an assistant district attorney, was driving south on Route 8 and approaching Cruikshank Road about 6:05 p.m. Jan. 25
A Middlesex Township police accident report said a sport utility vehicle driven by Agnes C. Keegan, 69, of Forward Township attempted to cross east to west on Cruikshank Road and traveled into Simon’s path.
The SUV struck the car’s left front tire area, the report said. The car ended up in the grassy area on the property of Ibis Tek.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts and their air bags deployed.
Simon, 44, of Cranberry Township was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he remained for two days.
Keegan also suffered unknown injuries. Police said a family member later reported she was taken by private vehicle to an unknown hospital.
She was cited for a stop sign violation.
Simon on Thursday said he continues to heal from his injuries. Recovery time is expected to take six to eight weeks but he’s been cleared to return for “light duty” work next week.
