Raider boys in semifinal

Seneca Valley's boys soccer team advanced to Tuesday's PIAA Class 4A semifinal round with a 3-0 victory over Lower Merion Saturday in Mechanicsburg.

Max Marcotte gave the Raiders the lead with a goal in the 30th minute.

Nathan Prex and Joey Coon both scored in the second half for SV, the defending state champion.

Seneca Valley (20-0-1) will meet Peters Township (18-2-1), a 2-0 winner over Central Dauphin, in a semifinal Tuesday.

The Raiders defeated Peters, 3-1, in the WPIAL title game Nov. 6.

North Catholic received goals from Lauren MacDonald, Jayden Sharpless and Kathleen Virostek in defeating District 10 champion Villa Maria, 3-0, in a PIAA Class 2A quarterfinal at Neshannock High School.Rylee Kumer made eight saves to earn the shutout.North will face Avonworth, a 2-0 winner over Trinity, in a semifinal Tuesday.The Trojanettes (19-2) and Antelopes (18-3-1) have already squared off three times this season. They split two meetings in the regular season before Avonworth won, 2-1, in the WPIAL championship game.

After dropping the first set, Freeport answered by taking the next three to defeat Twin Valley, 3-1, in a PIAA Class 3A quarterfinal at Bald Eagle High School in Centre County.The Yellowjackets won by scores of 24-26, 25-23, 25-14 and 25-21.Freeport (18-1) will take on Hampton in a semifinal Tuesday.The 'Jackets defeated Hampton for the WPIAL title earlier this month.North Catholic 3, Bedford 0 — The Trojanettes made quick work of the District 5 champion, defeating the Bisons by scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-8 in a PIAA Class 2A quarterfinal at Hempfield Area High School.WPIAL champion North (19-1) will face Philipsburg-Osceola, which defeated Harbor Creek 3-1, in a semifinal Tuesday.The Trojanettes fell to P-O in a state semifinal playoff last year.
