James McCleary

James Everett McCleary, 45, of Zelienople, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after a battle with serious medical conditions. He showed his courage facing life’s challenges with a smile, despite his pain. Jim stayed strong to the very end.

Born on Dec. 14, 1975, in Neptune City, N.J., he was the son of Donald R. McCleary and Donna (Stahlman) Hazy.

Jim’s greatest love in life was his son, Aiden. Jim enjoyed poker, music, and board games. He was a fantastic chef, and worked many years as head chef at the Harmony Inn.

Jim wanted to be remembered by a Hunter S. Thompson quote, “There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”

In addition to his parents, James is survived by his son, Aiden James McCleary; his brother, Noah Hazy; his sister, Jordan Hazy; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

MCCLEARY — A private memorial service will be held in honor of James Everett McCleary, who died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021.

Arrangements were entrusted to GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Butler County Humane Society in honor of James’ love of all animals.
