North Catholic teams move on

Dylan Greggs scored both goals for North Catholic as the Trojans dispatched District 6 champion Richland, 2-1, in a PIAA Class 2A boys soccer first-round playoff in Johnstown Tuesday night.

Francisco Smith added an assist for North (13-8), which will face Ambridge, a winner over Fairview, in a quarterfinal Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

Somerset 1, Karns City 0 — The Gremlins' season came to an end with this loss to the District 5 champion in a PIAA Class 2A first-round playoff.

KC ends the season with a record of 15-3-1.

Julia Lozowski's goal in the 54th minute gave Seneca Valley the lead, but McDowell scored twice, including an overtime goal, to earn a 2-1 victory in a PIAA Class 4A first-round playoff in Erie.The Raiders end the season with a record of 16-5-2.

With ten kills and four blocks, Josie Russo led the way in Freeport's PIAA Class 3A first round playoff triumph over Plum. The Yellowjackets swept the Mustangs by the scores of 25-11, 26-24, and 25-18. Both Erica Lampus and Cassidy Dell notched a half-dozen kills, with the former adding 21 assists. On Saturday, the 'Jackets will play Twin Valley, 3-1 winner over Hollidaysburg.North Catholic 3, Corry 0 — The Trojanettes won their PIAA Class 2A tournament opener against Corry in straight sets, the scores being 25-8, 25-11, and 25-16. No other information was available. North will next play Bedford, which defeated Keystone, 3-1.

Parker Worsley scored two goals and added two assists as Butler defeated West Allegheny, 7-1, recently. Brody Simko added a goal and two assists.Kyle Grasha and Owen Denny scored two goals each while goaltender EJ Delaney stopped 23 of 24 shots.Simko had a goal and assist, Colton Gregory and Denny a goal each in a recent 10-3 loss to Armstrong.Butler plays Montour at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Frozen Pond.
