Cranberry VFC wins award for fire prevention efforts

The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company’s dedication to fire safety now has statewide recognition.

The fire company received an award from the Firemen’s Association of Pennsylvania earlier in September for their Fire Safety Education program.

The week of Oct. 3 to Oct. 9 is Fire Prevention Week, a week dedicated to sharing fire safety education with the public, but at Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, assistant fire safety education coordinator Jack Carney says that there’s no time limit on teaching safety precautions.

“This month is fire prevention, and this whole year is for fire prevention,” Carney said.

“We finished 1st place in division A,” Carney said. “Division A is a fire department in a population over 10,000 people. We also received an $800 check for our program.”

The ceremony was scheduled to take place in Limerick, Pa., but representatives from the Firemen’s Association were able to travel to Cranberry to deliver the award plaque directly to the department.
