Zelienople's new app could be big help to residents

Zelienople residents can now report nonemergency issues, receive information and pay bills via a new website and mobile application.

Through SeeClickFix, residents can use an app titled “Zelienople” to see information about news, events and activities; report issues such as potholes, damaged street signs or graffiti; and receive notices about nearby road closures, power outages and other information.

The borough partnered with SeeClickFix in January, and has now launched the website and mobile app.

The new tool, the borough claims, can improve residents' quality of life and encourage greater civic participation.

When residents submit reports of nonemergency issues such as a pothole, according to Zelienople, they can attach pictures, videos or specific descriptions. The app can identify the location of an issue and, using GPS, the borough can track specifically where the issues are located.

Additionally, submitters can track the issue from creation to resolution. Moreover, residents can comment on and track the status of issues submitted by their neighbors.

Zelienople officials still stressed the importance of reporting emergency utility and public safety items directly to 911, not through the new application.

In terms of providing notices to residents, the application uses the “geographic interest” of users to send information, making it more likely residents will see notices about, for example, road closures and power outages more relevant to them.

The application can be found under the name “Zelienople” on Google Play and the Apple App Store, or accessed online at seeclickfix.com/zelienople.
