Cranberry and Slippery Rock have 9/11 events

Slippery Rock University and Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company are among the local places with plans to recognize the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Both have scheduled Saturday ceremonies.

Slippery Rock University is hosting a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Jack Critchfield Park.

The university also organized a 110 Flight Stair Challenge, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jack Critchfield Park. The SRU community is invited to join first responders as teams or individuals to climb 2,071 steps to represent the 110 floors of the World Trade Center to honor those who protect people from foreign and domestic threats.

The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company will hang an American flag from a ladder truck Saturday morning, which will be displayed throughout the day. The company will also have a firefighter playing taps at the times when the 9/11 attacks occurred 20 years ago. The first time will be at 8:46 a.m. and the last at 10:28 a.m.
