Garden Club offers pollinator walk

The Southern Butler County Garden Club will host a pollinator walk and garden tour at the community garden in Graham Park in Cranberry near the pickleball and basketball courts Sept. 2.

The tours are free and open to the public, and will run from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m.

Garden club members will answer questions and hand out flyers about bees, hummingbirds, moths, butterflies and other pollinators. They'll also give out information about plants that homeowners can grow in their own gardens that support and feed pollinators.

“We were thinking now would be a nice time, because everything is in full bloom, and we're really promoting pollinators,” said Karen Faust, member and past president of the Southern Butler County Garden Club. “That's our life source. If we don't have pollinators, we don't have food.”

The garden club had previously hosted a Coffee with the Township Manager event earlier in the summer that had been slated to take place in the garden itself, but was moved indoors because of torrential rain. Faust said the pollinator tour was a way to get residents involved and out in nature in the park.

“This is an opportunity to talk to our members and learn a little bit about pollinators at two different times that we hope will be convenient for residents,” she said.

“It's free, and not a fancy thing,” she said. “It's an educational opportunity for people.”
