The annual park renovation grants were approved Wednesday by Butler County commissioners.

The 12 grants are all in the amount of $7,500, with one exception.

Adams Township was awarded $7,155 toward a $9,540 project to place additional lighting throughout Adams Township Community Park.

Butler Township will put its $7,500 grant toward a $12,171 project to replace picnic tables at Preston and Butler Township parks and to add lighting at the existing pickleball courts and removable pickleball nets at the dek hockey rink at Butler Township Park.

Butler will pursue a $10,077 project to upgrade basketball backboards at Ritts and Father Marinaro parks.

Clay Township received the grant for a $34,790 project to apply for a state grant to complete the first phase of the ADA-compliant playground at Dassa McKinney Elementary School, which would finish up an ADA play surface at the playground.

Clinton Township will use the funds to eradicate the invasive Russian olive bush at the community park. About 1,500 feet of ground containing the bush will be sprayed, cut down and cleared, and resprayed next spring at a total cost of $10,225.

Connoquenessing will apply for a state grant to install a climbing feature at the borough park at a cost of about $116,000.

Cranberry Township will resurface the tennis courts at Graham Park at a total cost of $15,250.

Limestone for the trail and the replacement of swings at Swamp Poodle Park in Harmony was approved for a county grant. That project will cost a total of $10,045.

Petrolia received the grant for treated lumber to edge a newly installed playground, a concrete ADA walkway and new shingled roof for the borough park's maintenance facility. That project will cost $12,726.

Saxonburg will replace shingles, soffit and fascia at Roebling Park, and replace rotten wood to preserve the pavilion. The cost for that project is $10,750.

Seven Fields officials will use the borough's grant to pursue a swimming pool feasibility study at a total cost of $24,010.

Slippery Rock was awarded the grant to replace electrical infrastructure at Memorial Park in the borough at a cost of $11,073.

A total of 20 municipalities applied for the county park renovation grant.

Lance Welliver, county parks and recreation director, said the county Parks and Recreation Advisory Review Committee recommends the projects they believe are most deserving of the annual grants.

The county receives the money from an annual grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
