Dogs welcome in more park areas

Dogs soon will be able to have their day in more areas of North Boundary Park in Cranberry Township.

A pilot program will allow pooches to walk, with their owners and on leashes, around the NexTier Loop, a paved trail that winds through the park. It is adjacent to the disc golf course and nature trail areas, where dogs have been permitted since 2019.

Dogs must be leashed at all times and are not permitted on sports fields, at the Waterpark or at the Crocodile Cove Playground.

To help owners navigate the new rules, dog stations have been erected at various stops along the loop, featuring pet waste receptacles and signs outlining protocols.

The pilot program will run through 2021, with township officials evaluating its success and determining if it will become a permanent feature.

This newest area to allow dogs joins Rotary Dog Park in Community Park as well as the Brush Creek Trail Extension.
