Cranberry clubwomen cook up sweet replacement fundraiser

CRANBERRY TWP — With the surges of COVID-19 this spring and fall, the Cranberry Women’s Club has been unable to host its two major fundraisers — the Spring Tea and the fall Farkleberry Craft Show.

But the needs of community organizations and the people they serve continue.

Rather than throw in the towel, the women’s club is turning to an alternative means of raising funds: selling holiday cookies.

It’s a time-honored tradition that is still used by numerous school extracurricular fundraisers and the Girl Scouts of America, and the Cranberry Women’s Club hopes to fuel its support of community nonprofits and those in need through the sale of these winter treats.

The club has in the past used its in-person fundraisers to provide support to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Gleaners Food Bank and UPMC Cranberry Place. In the 2016-2017 club year, for example, Cranberry Women’s Club allocated more than $9,000 to eight charities.

So the club, in lieu of its two major events, is baking batches of two dozen holiday cookies for $15. Orders are due by Nov. 30, and the club currently plans to hold pickup at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road, on Dec. 18 and 19.

Interested residents can place an order for the homemade treats by contacting the club via email at cranberrywomensclub.fundraisers@gmail.com, or by sending a $15 check that lists a phone number, payable to “CWC,” to P.O. Box 1402, Cranberry Township, PA 16066.
