ZELIENOPLE — When the Zelienople Area Public Library first approached ShuBrew about creating a special beer in honor of its 100th anniversary, no one knew how the year would turn out.

But the partnership weathered the pandemic, and the beer — called Reader's Relief — will be on draft at ShuBrew from Sept. 24 through 30. ShuBrew will donate $1 per pint of Reader's Relief sold to the library.

ShuBrew brewed a fruited Berliner Weiss in honor of the occasion.

Brewer Zachary Shumaker chose a German beer because of the German ancestry in the area, and it uses all German grains and hops, plus strawberries and raspberries. It will be 5%-6% alcohol by volume, and will be mildly tart. It will be light pink in color.

The release of Reader's Relief at ShuBrew kicks off the library's centennial celebration events. On Oct. 10, between 3 and 4 p.m., a centennial procession will wend its way through the residential streets of Harmony and Zelienople.

Featuring vehicles from each decade from 1920 through the present (many provided by the Butler Old Stone House Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America), banners highlighting library history will also be displayed.

The Rotary Club of Zelienople is assisting the library in putting on the centennial procession. Residents are invited to participate in the procession by waving posters or their favorite book from their porches.

At 2 p.m. Oct. 17, there will be the 100th birthday puppet show presented by Adam Swartz Puppets. It will take place at the Mussig shelter, behind the tennis courts at the Zelienople Community Park.

The library will also have a presence during the Zelie Stroll Sept. 24 and Oct. 22.
