Let it flow Fountain focal point of Middlesex development

This water fountain is visible from Routes 228 and 8 in front of Middlesex Crossing, a new development in Middlesex Township.

And, it's on.

After months in the construction phase, the 35-foot high water feature at Routes 8 and 228 began flowing in late July.

“It's a focal point to the development,” said Chris Kaclik, project manager for NWPA Property Development, the firm behind the 92-acre Middlesex Crossing. “It's a prime location, and we wanted a great feature as you entered the development and the township.”

Adam Hartwig, Middlesex Township manager, said the waterfall is attractive, relaxing and identifying.“That's a heavily traveled intersection, and when you hit it and see that water feature, it truly gives identity to the community we are in,” Hartwig said. “Yes, Middlesex is a township. But it's a community. A place for people to come, put down roots, live, play and work.”It took 350 tons of landscaping boulders and 75 tons of river rock to form the feature. The gigantic hillside structure pumps 40,000 gallons of water an hour from two, 20,000-gallon pumps. The water flows from both sides and the middle.Kaclik said the feature is perfect for the front of Middlesex Crossing because the former farmland and forest lot is zoned town center. “It's a live, work, play development.”

The plan calls for 150 single- family homes and townhomes and 100,000-square-feet of mixed-use retail.Already about 100 homes are occupied, and American Natural opened a convenience store on the corner retail lot last fall.Planned additions include a fitness place and nail and hair businesses.Kaclik gave credit for the water feature to G2G Landscaping in Evans City. The sign was designed by Woodward Inc. in Mars.Enjoy it now. Kaclik said the feature will be turned off during winter months, as it could freeze.
