Despite efforts to save its hallmark summer events, Seven Fields Borough Council on Monday canceled or postponed two more gatherings for foreseen low participation.

The annual Music, Beer and Wine Fest, scheduled for Saturday, was canceled, and Food Truck Nights, scheduled each Wednesday from July 29 to Aug. 26, were indefinitely postponed.

Council arrived at the decision to alter the events due to a number of factors, including how few tickets had been sold, vendors pulling out of the events, and pandemic guideline-related changes that would have to be made.

For the Music, Beer and Wine Fest, for example, the borough would be able to host only 200 guests within a fenced-off area, something that would render impossible any attempts to have live music, which the borough has offered in years past.

“We've made it an event,” council President Kimberly Regan-Koch said. “It's just not, 'Go, get some food.'”

One festival night vendor pulled out of the event, as did one food truck vendor. Regan-Koch said she didn't want to harm the borough's relationship with the vendors in having an unsuccessful event.

“Right now, we're looking at having, literally, 30 to 40 percent of the people that we had (last year), so it is not in good faith that we bring all these vendors out here and them expect differently,” she said.

Tickets for the Music, Beer and Wine Fest were required to be purchased in advance, and only about 130 had sold by Monday evening.

“I want our vendors to come back next year. And I don't know how you social distance 200 people,” Regan-Koch said. “I just feel we will fail miserably in this event this year.”

Council did not formally cancel its weekly food truck extravaganzas, but they didn't set a date for them to resume either.

A motion by Regan-Koch to postpone Food Truck Nights until the fall received no affirmative votes before being withdrawn in favor of one suspending it until “later.” The council president said they would develop a committee to discuss when — and even whether — to host the events.
