The first open apiary event of the year is set from 10 a.m. to noon July 19 at the apiary, 5604 Freshcorn Road, Cranberry Township. Space is limited. To register for the free event, call 724-776-4806, Ext. 1513.

During the event, local gardening guru Doug Oster will discuss how to make yards, gardens and landscaping more pollinator friendly. A tour of a honeybee hive and a discussion of the complexity of the species will follow.

Attendees are asked to arrive with masks on. No open shoes are permitted, and long pants should be worn.
