What Seven Fields needs now is a drink.

At least that's what borough council decided Monday when it voted to move forward with its summer events, including opening the community pool and having its annual carnival; its annual beer, music and wine festival; as well as a return of food truck nights.

“They (Seven Fields residents) want normalcy as best as possible under the circumstances, and we're going to do our very best to provide that,” borough manager Tom Smith said.

Starting July 2, with the first night of the Seven Fields Community Carnival, followed directly by the July 3 pool opening through the last Wednesday in August with its final food truck night, Seven Fields plans to host its entire slate of summer events following pandemic-related recommendations from health officials.

Steps to abide by those recommendations include fencing in areas, so an accurate count of attendees can be made, as well as pre-selling tickets for the beer, music and wine festival.

”Obviously, there's going to be one entrance for all of our events. We will count all the people for the carnival, we're permitted 477 people,” Smith said. “All vendors will be responsible and they have to have a COVID-19 plan. We will also be following all federal, state and CDC health guidelines for social distancing and recommendations.”

That limitation on attendance was the driving force behind the 250- to 275-person limit on the beer fest, which is why tickets are sold in advance.

“You will not be able to buy a ticket the day of the event. Once they're sold out, they're sold out, and we anticipate selling them out,” Smith said. “It's been a very popular event over the last two years.”

Combine that with people seeking relief from hot weather and wanting to go outside — and see people face-to-face — following the state-issued stay-at-home orders, Smith said he expects the events and pool opening to be popular.

”I think they're going to be successful,” he said. “I think, everybody, having been cooped up since March up until now, I think everyone's going to welcome these events.”

The pool will have some limitations similar to those followed by other pools. Only Seven Field residents will be admitted, pool goers will need to bring their own seating, and no changing areas or showers will be available, although toilets will be open.

Additionally, swimmers will be unable to use the pool from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. as the facilities are sanitized, and concessions will not be offered.

Still, Smith said, he hopes the pool will be a reprieve from the hot and muggy Pennsylvania summer months.

“This is something that, I think, the residents look forward to on an annual basis,” Smith said. “I think visitors look forward to it, especially food truck night and our carnival. Our pool is something our residents look forward to.”
