Conno kindergartener creates Frozen Cloud

It was a sweet victory for a Connoqunessing Elementary School kindergartener.

Gioia Cresta, daughter of Franko and Jennifer Cresta of Evans City, was selected as one of the grade’s finalist for the Mercurio’s Coolest School contest.

The contest, hosted by Mercurio’s Artisan Gelato and Ceopolitan Pizza, selected one flavor suggestion from students for each grade from kindergarten to eighth grade in the Pittsburgh area.

Gioia’s flavor, Frozen Cloud, is a grape and blue raspberry flavored gelato with marshmallow mixed throughout.

Mercurio’s is selling Gioia’s flavor along with the other winning flavors for $7.85 a pint with $3 of each pint going to the contestant’s school. The pints will be for sale online mercuriosgelatopizza.com, over the phone and in person at both Mecurio’s locations in Shadyside and Fox Chapel until May 31st.

The flavor that sells the most will be dubbed the winner and that winner’s school will receive and addition $500 as well as being submitted to the National Ice Cream competition in Orlando, Fla., in the fall.

The finalist flavor for each grade level was selected based on what was interesting and feasible to make in a gelato form according to Dale Russ, a floor manager for Mecurio’s.
