Cranberry training center opens

D1 Training opened in December at the Cranberry Mall, 20111 Route 19. The gym offers age-based programs for children through adults.

D1 Training is settling into its new Cranberry Township home.

“We're really excited to help anybody reach their fitness goals,” said owner and operator Joel Stewart.

The new training center opened in December at the Cranberry Mall, 20111 Route 19, Suite 302A.

The gym offers five age-based programs including rookie (ages 7 to 11), developmental (ages 12 to 14), prep (ages 15 to 18), boot camp (adults) and strength training (adults).

Stewart said the goal of the fitness center is to cater to everyone's individual goals.

Stewart said for athletes, the programs can be generalized or specified to an individual or team.

“D1 is where we take it to the next level,” he said.

Reno Eguia, the head strength and conditioning coach at D1 Training, said a youth soccer team has been training with them for about six weeks.

“They've responded great with it,” he said. “The kids have really been getting a lot of good work done here.”

Eguia said the training center's staff is prepared to work with teams or individuals looking for more-specified training in popular sports, like football, basketball and soccer.

He said once the location is more concretely established, he would like to expand into other sports.“I would really like to get some of those sports in here like lacrosse and wrestling,” Eguia said.Eguia said on top of focusing on the children's quality of training, the gym wants to train the athletes' behavior and mindset.“We want to make sure that the kids know what hard work and discipline are,” he said. “We try to make sure we instill good qualities here.”For those who aren't invested in a sport, D1 training offers a place where people work toward any fitness goal.“The motto of this place is this is the place for the athlete, and how we define athlete is anyone with a fitness goal,” Stewart said.Based in Franklin, Tenn., D1 Training has more than 27 performance centers open with 99 additional locations in development.“The North Pittsburgh location will bring a one of a kind training experience and energy to the community and help them realize everyone can be an athlete,” said Michael Abramson, president of D1 Training.

Two of the five age-range programs at D1 Training, a gym that opened in December at the Cranberry Mall, are geared toward adults.
