A firefighter from Harmony Fire District sprays down a 40-foot camper that caught fire twice Wednesday in Indian Brave Campground in Jackson Township. No one was injured.

JACKSON TWP — Firefighters twice responded Wednesday to a fire in Indian Brave Campground after a blaze in a 40-foot camper rekindled and rendered it a total loss.

According to Harmony Fire District Chief Scott Garing, crews were called at around 4:30 p.m. to a reported fire in an Open Range Roamer travel trailer on Sitting Bull Lane in the campground, but it had been put out with a fire extinguisher by the time firefighters arrived.

Two hours later, Harmony and Cranberry fire crews responded to a fire at the same trailer. According to Josh Banks, who was moving into the campground Wednesday, flames were shooting from the camper.

Banks said he and other campers moved a 4-foot tall propane tank from the outside of the camper when the flames rekindled. Garing said firefighters removed two smaller propane tanks from the structure.

Tanker trucks were called to assist at the campground, which is bounded on the west side by Scholars Run and on the south and east by the Connoquenessing Creek.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but fire crews were seen dousing the camper, removing items from storage compartments and tearing down parts of its interior.

Nobody was in the camper when the fire rekindled, and there were no injuries.
