Equine Wellness Workshops offered

ZELIENOPLE — Equine Assisted Wellness Workshops will be offered from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the first Sunday of each month at Glade Run Adventures.

“They are designed for anybody interested in overall wellness, and managing the stress of daily life,” said Julie Wahlenmayer, director of Glade Run Adventures and a licensed professional counselor. Wahlenmayer is also a member of Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship and Equine Assisted, Growth and Learning Association.

The first program will be Feb. 2 at the group’s facility, 30 Glade Run Drive.

The program, designed by Wahlenmayer, partners two hours of guided wellness activities with the group’s 10 therapy horses and a miniature horse, cow and donkey.

The non-mounted experience is designed to promote wellness, manage stress and relieve anxiety or depression, and will be adapted to participants’ needs.

“Research has shown that interacting with animals can decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone), lower blood pressure and help people manage their long-term mental health conditions,” according to the group’s news release.

Wahlenmayer said the wellness techniques will include a lot of sensory experiences.

For more information, contact JWahlenmayer@gladerun.org; call 724-452-4453, Ext. 1236; or visit www.gladerunadventures.org. The sessions cost $25 and are also available by appointment.
