ADAMS TWP — Adams supervisors moved to donate an old fire company Freightliner to the county's emergency services unit during Monday night's meeting.

The township had decided to sell the Freightliner after it was passed on to Adams by Callery Volunteer Fire Department.

“It didn't fit our needs,” said Thomas Franceschina, supervisor chairman.

The vehicle was put up for bid with a minimum bid of $10,000 earlier this year, but didn't receive any interest.

Supervisors voted in October to lower the bid minimum to $5,000 and re-advertise for bids.

There were no bidders in the second round, either.

“However, we got a request from the Butler County Emergency Services Unit,” Franceschina said. “They wanted to know if we could donate it to them.”

Adams Township Police Sgt. Edward Lenz explained how the ESU team would benefit from such a donation.

“The ambulance the (county) EMS team currently uses ... will no longer pass inspection,” Lenz said.

Lenz told supervisors the township's Freightliner still can be used to supply medical equipment and help in emergency situations.

“It's heated,” Lenz said. “There's air conditioning, so we should be able to use it as some kind of command post.”

Lenz told supervisors three Adams police officers work with the ESU team.

“All the paramedics are actually volunteers,” Lenz said.

Supervisor Russell Ford said if the truck had been sold, Callery Volunteer Fire Department would have received half of the sale of the Freightliner.

Ford said the fire company was presented with the donation request.

“They've agreed too,” Ford said.

Supervisors unanimously voted to donate the freightliner.
