Fundraiser benefits couple who lost home

CRANBERRY TWP — A GoFundMe fundraising page has been created for the victims of a devastating fire on Wednesday.

The home of Gary and Mary Thompson at 134 Hope Road was destroyed by a fire that occurred while the couple was on vacation.

Scott Witalis lives next door to the Thompsons at 136 Hope Road.

“Gary and Mary are so nice,” Witalis said. “I always kid and call him the mayor of Hope Road because he knows everybody.”

Witalis said the Thompsons have gone out of their way on many occasions to help neighbors and others in the community.

He said he set up the fundraising campaign to help them as they wait through insurance procedures.

“It's a bridge. That's the way I see it,” he said. “This is sort of to meant as transitional type of money to help them get to the next chapter in their life.”

The GoFundMe page titled Thompson Phoenix Fire Fund had raised almost $4,000 as of Monday night.

Donors can find the page by visiting www.gofundme.com/f/thompson-phoenix-fire-fund.
