Butler County is among the areas eligible for federal disaster relief loans, but not for the floods that hit the region hard in early July.

The U.S. Small Business Administration and Gov. Tom Wolf announced Thursday that those in Allegheny County or contiguous counties — including Butler County — are eligible for low-interest loans to repair flood damages.

However, the damages had to result from flooding and storms on July 21 and 22, later in the month than the severe flooding that hit areas such as Zelienople and Harmony.

The loans are available for eligible renters, businesses and homeowners.

Starting Friday, the Small Business Association will have a loan center set up at the Renton Volunteer Fire Department at 1996 Old Mine Road in Pittsburgh for those who are interested.

The office opens Friday at 11 a.m. It will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday until 4 p.m. on Aug. 20. It will also be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 10 and 17, both of which are Saturdays.

If Butler County residents suffered debilitating flood damage on July 21 or 22, they're able to go to the center to inquire about relief, according to L. Paul Vezzetti, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.

“If you go, be prepared to tell your story,” Vezzetti said.

This is the second instance of a 2019 flash flooding disaster declaration getting loan assistance from the Small Business Administration. The first was for flooding on June 20 and 21 in Berks County and surrounding counties.
