Westinghouse names new president, CEO

Fragman, a VP from ABB Limited, to start Aug. 19

CRANBERRY TWP — Westinghouse Electric Co. will have new leadership this summer following the company's announcement that president and CEO José Emeterio Gutiérrez will step down in late July.

Gutiérrez will be replaced by Patrick Fragman, who currently is group senior vice president at ABB Limited. He will take on the roles of president and CEO effective Aug. 19. An executive committee of senior company leadership will manage the company in the interim.

“We look forward to welcoming Patrick, a respected global executive in the sector, with deep expertise of both the industry and markets in which Westinghouse operates,” Denis Turcotte, Westinghouse board of directors chairman, said. “We are confident the business is well positioned to continue to strengthen and grow under his leadership.”

Fragman is a nearly 30-year veteran of the power and energy industry, recently serving as group senior vice president of ABB Limited's Grid Integration business. Before joining ABB, he spent 15 years at Alstom in senior roles around the world, most recently leading its nuclear business.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead Westinghouse, an industry leader with a reputation for best-in-class customer service and innovation,” Fragman said. “I look forward to working with employees and Westinghouse stakeholders to further build momentum as a leading provider of key services to the world's nuclear fleet.”

Gutiérrez began his tenure in 2016, leading the company through its period of bankruptcy and eventual purchase by Brookfield Business Partners in 2018.

“It has been an honor to serve as president and CEO of Westinghouse, a truly iconic company and global leader in the nuclear industry,” Gutiérrez said. “I look forward to continuing to support the company's international growth strategy as a member of the Global Advisory Board.”

Gutiérrez joined Westinghouse in 2008 as technical director of nuclear services and regional vice president of Spain and ultimately rose through the ranks, being appointed interim president and CEO in 2016 and president and CEO in 2017.

Gutiérrez will continue to have a strategic role within the company as a member of a Global Advisory Board, established to provide guidance on Westinghouse's international strategy to drive global growth, according to a company release.
