FedEX says 'no immediate plans' to leave Cranberry site

CRANBERRY TWP — Technology upgrades and the moving of a company division headquarters has sparked some speculation that FedEx jobs in Cranberry Township may be headed to Tennessee in the coming years. FedEx says there are no plans to that effect.

In December, the company announced volunteer buyouts for staff at FedEx, and on a quarterly earnings call that month, company executives noted that recent technology upgrades will allow FedEx to operate with fewer staff.

In February, the company moved FedEx Logistic's headquarters to Memphis, Tenn.

FedEx Supply Chain, based in Cranberry Township, is a business unit of FedEx Logistics.

Company spokesman Jonathan Lyons, meanwhile, said the company has no plans to relocate FedEx Supply Chain and that employees in Cranberry Township should not expect any impacts to their jobs any time soon. Lyons did, however, acknowledge the FedEx is looking to make operations more efficient and to consolidate operations when it would best serve the company.

“FedEx Logistics is always evaluating ways to adjust our network to better serve our customers. At this time, there are no plans to relocate FedEx Supply Chain operations to Memphis,” he said in an email. “The headquarters in Memphis will consolidate staff functions over the next several years. There are no immediate impacts to employees and no immediate plans to close facilities.”
