ADAMS TWP — Township police are seeking witness accounts of an accident that sent one man to a Pittsburgh hospital with serious injuries.
The two-vehicle accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Jan. 28 on Route 228 at the Pittsburgh Street and Warrendale Road intersection near Mars.
A silver sedan flipped as a result of the accident, and the driver needed to be extracted from the vehicle.
Crews from the Adams Area Fire District, with support from Cranberry Township and Callery units, assisted in getting the driver out of the car, and secured the scene so a medical helicopter could land. Route 228 was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.
The driver was flown to UPMC Presbyterian with serious injuries, officials said. The driver of the other vehicle did not report injuries.
Officials said one of the vehicles appeared to have run a red light, although police have yet to determine which vehicle did so, and the accident remains under investigation. The condition or name of the driver was not available.
The Adams police department asks that anyone who witnessed the accident to contact police. To report information, contact Patrolman Doug Mazzanti at 724-625-2040, Ext. 240.
