Slippery roads caused accidents and slowed the morning commute for motorists Wednesday.

Northbound lanes of Interstate 79 near Wexford were closed after icy conditions caused accidents. Traffic was backed up for miles beyond the split at Interstate 279. The road was reopened by 8 a.m.

Additional delays were seen in and around Cranberry Township, where traffic was backed up onto Route 228 and Freedom Road due to southbound delays.

On the turnpike, a multi-vehicle accident in the westbound lanes near Exit 28 toward Cranberry and I-79 caused additional delays.
