CRANBERRY TWP — State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-12th, was re-elected Tuesday to an 11th term in office.

A veteran and staunch conservative, Metcalfe has made a name for himself over the years as a representative dedicated to limiting government overreach and defending traditional “family values.”

On election day, his supporters came out and voted to see his vision for the district continue.

The 12th Legislative District includes Adams, Clinton, Cranberry, Forward, Middlesex and Penn townships and Callery, Mars, Seven Fields and Valencia boroughs.

“It's a real blessing and an honor,” Metcalfe said Tuesday night. “God has really blessed us once again to serve the constituents of the 12th District.”

Metcalfe won 17,189 votes to Democratic challenger Dan Smith Jr.'s 12,250, according to unofficial results posted online by county officials.

Chairman of the State Government Committee, Metcalfe joined the legislature in 1998.

He is now setting his sights on maintaining the momentum he's built over the past two decades, battling regulatory overreach and working to protect taxpayers from intrusive government initiatives.

“(I'll be) working to make government limited and more efficient, relieving the tax burden and protecting family values,” he said.Throughout the last two years, his committee has sent legislation to the House floor, from prison reform to streamlining government agencies and organizations.Smith, though disappointed in the result, said he thought his campaign made a difference in the district.“For the many people we've spoken with, conservative Republicans, they've had enough,” he said. “I hope this close election shows they've had enough.”Smith thanked his team and all the volunteers that helped them through the campaign.“We had a wonderful team,” he said. “Wonderful supporters.”Metcalfe said he was grateful to have received another term.“(I am) thankful to God and thankful for the voters who honored me,” he said.
