Marshall prevails in state House's 14th District race

Jim Marshall

State House Rep. Jim Marshall, R-14th, will serve a seventh term.

Marshall won over challenger Amy Fazio for the seat that includes parts of Beaver and Butler counties.

Marshall received 3,734 votes in Butler County and 11,901 in Beaver County, while Fazio received 2,241 in Butler County and 6,884 in Beaver County, according to unofficial vote totals.

Marshall said the race was tough this year.

“It was a challenging year across Pennsylvania and across the country,” Marshall said. “I worked hard and had a lot of volunteers that worked hard all summer.”

Marshall commended Fazio for her effort and for challenging him.

“Amy worked hard and was very serious about the election,” he said. “I'm extremely grateful to the voters of the 14th District for their support.”

Marshall said it's tough to say what swayed the vote. He said he was anti-abortion and had more conservative stances fiscally.

“It could have just been the experience,” he said. “Twelve years in the House and I think I've done very well getting my message out, that I listen to residents of the 14th and am respectful of their opinions and continue to be very accessible.”

Marshall celebrated Tuesday night's victory by thanking his team and paying a visit to state House member Josh Kail, newly elected to the 15th Legislative District.

He said he hopes to continue to be consistent with his work and to chair a committee in the coming term.

“I'll be very, very happy to continue to serve the 14th,” Marshall said. “I look forward to being a chairman leading the committee and always being a strong supporter for the Western Pennsylvania region and especially the Beaver, Butler area.”

Fazio said she called shortly before 11 p.m. to concede the race. She said she fought hard but came up short.

“I really respect that it was a good clean race focused on the issues,” she said. “I'm really proud of the work that our team has done.”

Fazio said she appreciated meeting many new people in her community throughout the campaign.

“It's been a privilege getting to run the office,” she said. “Getting to know every corner of our community has been a privilege of a lifetime.”

She said her political future is uncertain. She said she only knows of her immediate concern: Sleep.

“I'm going to get some sleep tonight,” Fazio said. “We ran hard to the finish line. That's where we're at.”
