PNC Bank robber sought

A Cranberry Township police officer is armed with a rifle as he searches the area around the PNC Bank on Route 19 after it was robbed Wednesday morning.
No gun shown during heist

CRANBERRY TWP — Township police and the FBI are investigating a Wednesday morning bank robbery.

According to Sgt. Chuck Mascellino, the robbery was reported at 10:22 a.m. at the PNC Bank branch on Route 19 near North Boundary Road.

The FBI Pittsburgh field office said in a news release Wednesday that the suspect is a white male in his early 30s about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and gloves with a bandanna or T-shirt over his face.

According to officials, the suspect demanded money from the teller and left the bank on foot. He was last seen running through the wooded area behind the bank, the report said.

No weapon was displayed, according to the FBI.

Mascellino said police responded within a few minutes, and a heavy police presence was seen around the bank.

One officer was patrolling with a rifle in the parking lot area. A canine unit was also on scene between the PNC and Pinewood Memorial Park cemetery. Officers were also seen searching a wooded area behind the bank on North Boundary Road.No injuries were reported in the incident.Several Cranberry Township police units, as well as unmarked police vehicles, were seen along Route 19, as were units from the Evans City/Seven Fields Regional Police Department.By noon, the scene was mostly clear save for one police vehicle. Mascellino said the investigation was a joint venture with the FBI, and referred all questions to FBI officials.The bank reopened for business.Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact the FBI field office at 412-432-4000.

The FBI is seeking the public's help in identifying the unknown male robber. He was last seen running through the wooded area behind the Cranberry Township PNC on Route 19.
