Mindhunter affecting Zelie traffic Thursday

Crews from the Netflix show “Mindhunter” are scheduled to shoot a scene from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday night on Main Street in Zelienople.

ZELIENOPLE — Borough residents and commuters on Route 19 may notice some commotion downtown this week as a major production studio will be filming in the borough Thursday night.

Crews from the Netflix show “Mindhunter” are scheduled to shoot a scene from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday night in front of the Strand Theater on Main Street.

Flaggers will control traffic, according to a PennDOT release, and there will be alternating one-lane traffic on Routes 19, 68 and 288.

Chief Jim Miller broke it down for council at their Monday meeting, assuring them the pieces are in place for a minimally disruptive night.

“Here's what the scene consists of: a car drives up with a couple on a date. They pull up in front of the Strand Theater on the other side. They have an argument, and they leave,” he said.

The show is paying for added police presence to help with traffic and have come to agreements with local businesses for the inconvenience, Miller explained.

“They're putting a crane in the middle of the highway with overhead lighting,” Miller said. “They're also putting another crane down by the Goodfellows parking lot with overhead lighting.”

They also got approval from PennDOT to remove street signs during the shoot.

Motorists should expect delays during the time of the shoot.
