Dylan Rodriguez, a 12-year old from Saxonburg, was recently named Pennsylvania's American Taekwondo Association 2012 Sparring Champion.

He also placed second in the Forms and Weapons divisions for his age group.

Rodriguez, who will be a seventh grader at Knoch Middle School this fall, is a student at Makowski's ATA in Sarver and currently holds the rank of Red Belt Decided.

He is also a member of the school's Black Belt Club and Leadership Club and is a Junior Leader, helping to instruct the lower-ranking students during class.

BUTLER TWP — Butler graduate Nate Snodgrass has opted out of his basketball scholarship with the Naval Academy.The Golden Tornado's starting point guard the past four years, Snodgrass has returned home and is considering a number of Division I and II scholarship possibilities, Butler varsity boys basketball coach Matt Clement said.

CHAMPION — Butler resident Rob Voltz finished second at Wednesday’s 2012 West Penn Amateur Public Links Championship, held at Seven Springs Resort.Voltz managed a two-over-par (38-35) 73, one stroke behind Bridgeville’s Evan Lestini.Stefan Carlsson, also of Butler, tied for seventh place with a (35-42) 77.
