Suspect charged in 3 Zelie burglaries

ZELIENOPLE — Borough police this week arrested a man they say burglarized the same house three times.

Daniel W. Maurer, 49, of Allison Park on Thursday was arraigned and placed in Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail. He is charged with three counts of felony burglary, three counts of criminal trespassing and two counts of felony theft by unlawful taking.

The residents of a house in the 700-block of West Beaver Street reported that cash hidden in the house totaling $2,000 went missing twice between Aug. 9 and 18, according to the criminal complaint.

On Sunday, they again reported that the house was broken into and $500 cash was taken. This time the family had set up a trail camera and the footage allegedly showed Maurer entering the house and the garage. Both police and the residents were familiar with Maurer and recognized him in the footage.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 6 in Evans City.
